Darn professor! If she had sent out an email letting us know she is out sick, I would not have wasted...my whole day.
Music music music...I jammed with Jon yesterday and it sounds great. The three of us will hopefully play together on Thursday. I can't wait! I can't wait to show off my awesome synthesizer skills.
This week should be short and sweet, by the way. Neither my prints class nor the Bettelheim class are meeting on Thursday, so there go the classes in which I fantasize about escape. I just have to deal with some Japanese (yawn) and Art for Children. Video class is just gonna be some workshop. I can handle it.

Wheee, today was fun!
I went with Mitra to see Mountain Goats and Final Fantasy. I obviously went for Final Fantasy. I picked her up down in her neighborhood (slightly inconvenient since Judah was closed) and got burgers. I had two cups of coffee, yesssssss! We got to the venue after doors but before Owen Pallett came on so it was cool.
Final Fantasy's set was really nice. Short, as it was the opening act, but lots of great stuff I love. "He Poos Clouds" got me all teared-up, it's true. I am still thinking of "Lewis Takes Action" and how much I want a studio recording of it on a beautiful compact disc.
Speaking of compact discs, Owen Pallett said he'll be in San Francisco at Bottom of the Hill for the album release party in January! I am so going to that. And I can tell him about how much his music means to me blah blah blah.
Final Fantasy's lineup is different! There is a now a guy on guitar, percussion and backing vocals who helps out! Very exciting. The new stuff sounds great. Very rhythmic, very beautiful.
Then there was The Mountain Goats. They were great! I thought they sounded great. The main dude is so sweet, I love him. I liked when he played piano. Also, Owen came out and did violin stuff! Love. LOVE.
Sad things: No XL t-shirts!!!!! I WANTED ONE SO BAD.
Now I'm listening to some nice tunes. I ate another persimmon and it was lovely. Persimmons keep me "regular," if you know what I mean.

I only want comfort? I experience culture in order to comfort myself; a distraction from the truth, that life is meaningless and I will inevitably die.
I tell people I have senioritis, that I'm "ready to leave" university, that I am "so done" with all the mundane ritual of university life. But those are pitiful attempts to ascribe meaning and rationality to something I can't understand. I don't know how I feel about being in my last semester. I don't know what it means or how I feel. I give some trite cliche about how I'm supposed to feel and hope people accept it as truth.
I imitate. My behavior, my thought, they are both imitations, learned behaviors I have observed in others. Can I break out of such behavior? Is there any need to?

Yayyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!
I bought an MC-505! I am doing the happy Groovebox dance, now!
I'm pretty sure I mentioned it on Livejournal, but I brought my MC-303 on the tour this summer, and eventually taught Elisa to trigger patterns for me. It was very exciting to throw some 909 sounds out into the arty crowds, but it sadly died after we stayed in the haunted magnetic campground. It had had problems with its power supply and its volume, and to get exposed to all those ghosts was just too much. It died, a fact we realized 30 minutes before the Springfield show. We freaked out, but managed pretty well by turning our whole set "acoustic."
So, since the tour has ended, I have been looking to upgrade from my MC-303. I want to repair it and get my patterns off it, but with its flakey wall wart power supply and limited memory and MIDI and overall weird behavior, I don't think it's something I can keep using so much. So yes, upgrade. The next critter in the Groovebox line is the MC-505, a very famous groovebox. It's the source of Metalchicks' electronic dance parts. Peaches uses it for her electronic parts. Peaches showed it to MIA and it became MIA's first instrument. It is a thing of awesomeness.
I looked on Craigslist and found someone in Mountain View selling it for a really low price. I sent him an email explaining that my MC-303 died and I was looking to replace/upgrade. I worried if my email was too long and full of shit nobody cares about. He replied and told me I could come by on Friday evening. I did.
His house was so nice! He was part of a cute Francophone family with a cute baby and a cute baby playdate. He introduced the MC-505 as his "first girlfriend" and that his wife was generous to let him bring his old girlfriend with him to Mountain View. It ended up he didn't want to sell his MC-505 to "just anybody." Some people just wanted to add it to their collections. When I brought up in my email that I had a 303 that had broken down, he decided, "this is the guy!" I was worthy to inherit his first girlfriend. I showed him some of the stuff I used the MC-303 for, and he was just like, "YES YOU ARE WORTHY" or something, hahaha. He wants to keep in touch and make sure I'm treating his machine well. If I ever get to booking a show at Barefoot, I'll make sure to invite him.
So yeah, I have an MC-505! It is beautiful. Look at how awesome they are!
(suGar Yoshinaga, may I have your babies?)

| 9 Favorite Albums REVISITED |
[17 Sep 2009|03:39pm] |
Hey so, anybody remember that fun meme, "make a poster of your 9 favorite albums' covers?" Well, I have wanted to redo it for awhile. And finally, I did! I am so excited to be doing something frivolous when I could be working on important projects!!! There is the image and then I will briefly discuss the albums. Have you heard these? What do you think of them?
( My 9 Favorite Albums )
Thanks for watching! I did so enjoy this navel-gazing.

Whoo hoo, my last semester at State has begunnnnnnn. Here are my classes:
History of Prints - Looks cool. Haven't had Dr. Mann, but he seems like my kind of professor--sane, keen on teaching, not controlling or condescending. The subject matter seems a little dry (especially after the postmodern art history class) but at least it's not painting.
Arts of Africa, the Pacific, and Native Americas - Whoo hoo lower division art history = easy? I hope so. Dr. Bettelheim is a very cool lady, I'm totally down with having another of her classes. I also must confess I like Inuit art, so I look forward to those parts!
Digital Video - Digital video. Need I say more? It shall be awesome.
Art for Children - Looks neat. Lots of "kindergarten teacher" types enrolled, they hopefully won't bug me too much. I'm taking it as a studio elective. Getting added into this was really important, as I refuse to take more printmaking or drawing (haha).
Advanced Conversation and Composition 1 - Japanese students seriously act like they're 14. But, it's just a 300-level class. And Minami (not McKeon). Not a challenge at all and a class I intend to skip on occasion. Plus, my favorite Amoeba employee (SHE LIKES HACO!) is taking it, so hopefully I can stalk her and make her feel uncomfortable (cough).
So, there you go. My classes. I think this semester will be pretty sane. There's no McKeon. By the way, McKeon came up in some student conversation before class today, and one of the guys went on and on about how she is so great for enforcing her obsessive attendance policy and it's so disrespectful how people complained about her since she's doing them a favor somehow. I just turned off. I can't deal with Japanese Professor Sycophants (a bunch of people later talked about visiting Asano because she is so great).
Looooooking good, last semester. I just need to figure out something to do in the city on Fridays--I only have the Japanese class and it's 50 minutes. Hangouts, City people? Musical jam sessions, City people?

Man With The Child In His Eyes - Kate Bush |
] |
Oh man, my dream was so good. I dreamt I was being forced to suddenly do another leg of the tour, and I was just so fucking tired. So I was going to a venue to make plans for the show, and I was just so irritated to be touring again. And the people there were lecturing us about our manners. The guy told Mallary to take off her sunglasses when she spoke to him, but I looked around and saw that everyone at the venue wore giant trendy sunglasses. So I was like, FUCK THESE PEOPLE and THREW my rice pudding against the wall and stormed off crying. It was SUCH A GOOD DREAM

| Tour over! |
[19 Aug 2009|03:50am] |

Finished the tour! It was splendid. I am happy to be home, though I'd like to be asleep right now.
The tour was a really amazing experience. I feel like it was really important (at least for me). In the next few months, I look forward to digesting my memories of the past two weeks and constructing meaning from them.
Unrelated news, but Kahimi Karie got married! It's so great, though I also worry her domestic bliss will postpone future album releases. The feeling is thoroughly Kate Bush-y.
Plans for the future: Finish my last semester at State. I shall have my degree before the year is out! In terms of music, things are looking positive. Elisa came out of her shy vocalist shell during the tour and ended up being a great singer. I asked her to join the "band" as a permanent-ish member and she agreed. We plan on recording a proper EP at some point.

Today was so good! Things that happened
1. Anja made us pancakes!!!!!!!!! 2. I made Elisa walk for 1.3 hours in order to purchase pencil leads. 3. I realized I had lost my tuner and we went on a horrible search for tuners that was unsuccessful and then Elisa's father brought us a guitar tuner and a pitch pipe and that was nice but I needed something chromatic! And the lady from the venue had an iPhone tuner and it saved the day! 4. We had a great set--our best, yet! And the crowd was great and Elisa's mom filmed the whole performance and Elisa's grandmother said we're "so unique" which we've kinda got a lot? I kinda just think it's pop music. 5. Hangouts with Elisa, Lin, Lin's mother, Randrew, and Anja! I had a tempeh burger thing, it was very good and very greasy. Therefore even better. 6. Now at Anja's apartment which is so very wonderful! I am in love, sorry Randrew, the truth is I have been using your peppermint soap.

Hey posting times. I am sleepy and that means it is time for me to make a post!
The tour is going lovely, it's been so experiency with experiences. This current experience is great, it involves Elisa's sister cooking great food and watching Superbad. Tomorrow will be a show and I will meet some new people! YEAHHHHH
I hope Mallary and Bren-Bren hare having a good time. I wanted to chill out and get to know Brenda's friends but I wanted to stay with Elisa's sister much much more! And now I'm glad because it is so beautiful here! Going on tour has made me realize how beautiful the world is and how ugly my home is, ha-ha!

Pygmalism - Kahimi Karie |

Does anybody know how to cut hair? I want a nice, free haircut. It does not have to look good.
In other news....there is no other news. I went to Beard Papa's with Gail yesterday and it was great. Then I met Jon for Barefoot Coffee today and it was also great. I heard the coffeehouse bands and thought, "Elisa and I are so above this."
Work is almost over. I want work to be over, but I want more time to practice before the tour. In the words of Cathy, "AAAAACK!" That mindless cunt.

Wheee! Good morning, world. It's a lovely, lovely morning.
Yesterday was very good. After work, I picked up some ultra-powered coffee and new dulcimer picks and drove to SF for band practice with Elisa. We still have some issues, but it's all minor shit we can fix. We're really shaping up! I'm super-excited about our last song, which is a cover song. It sounds really good and I think our audiences will enjoy it.
One thing I'm worried about is that my middle finger seized up during one of our run-throughs. The chord shapes of the cover song are not very comfy. Hopefully, I just hadn't drunk enough water that day.
Whee, today shall be delightfully short work day and then lunch with emglyph and our mothers.

Yesterday was dim sum! And then Harry Potter for late Alissa birthday stuff! I love being with friends, it is the best ever.
Today was Buffy. Today will be awesome Indian recipe at Jeffrey's and video games. And then it will be music practice!
Oh and duh, I love the new Harry Potter movie. Movies 5 and 6 are so sincerely good! 3 and 4 were good-ish.

After the meeting, I picked up Mitra and drove back down to the south bay to attend Alissa's graduation party. That ended up being very fun!!!!
