Cut and Run
Whooo today was ridiculously awesome. It started with electronic music class, in which we talked about synth tunings. As you might imagine, Midi instruments are pretty good with alternative tunings. I sorta learned something new! Namely, that equal temperament is a sort of tuning "compromise" so you can play in every key on a piano. Since I'm always playing in D, maybe I should change things to a more "D"-friendly tuning...
After the show, I met up with Gail and we headed to the ATA for the video show I contributed to, "Cut & Run," which was curated by Emily, Brenda, and their friend Mallary. I met a ton of awesome people I know and like and also met
house_of_flames in real life for the first time! It was so great! I pretty much loved every moment. There were so many highlights! Including a slow-motion video from 1987 by my professor of a muscle stud flirting with ladies and then realizing she's filming him. Yesss it was so awesome. I dunno, I just loved everything? There was also a cool performance by this guy I think I've met before, whose music project is called Elm. He played bowed electric guitar and made loops and it was really pretty! I hate using the term "atmospheric" but it was reverb-laden and amorphous!
After the show, Gail, Matt and I went and got some trashy Mexican food, which was all delicious and full of fatty wonder. However, I ate way more than could possibly be safe and felt kinda awful the rest of the night.
After dropping Gail off at her car, Matt and I headed to the afterparty at Darren and Brenda's house which was totally great. I saw so many people I love and had a blast! We (especially I) danced like the nerds we are. I cannot remain sane when OMD's "Enola Gay" comes on (I requested it)! After the party was our drive home which happened late enough to be considered "early." I got home at like 4am.
One of the most exciting things I heard at the party was that Jesse played my song on his radio show, when they talked about the video show. HOLY SHIT! I listened to the podcast today and sure enough, he did! They also discussed it a little bit which was exciting.
My life rules when there are shows.
