Having an album grow on you is different. Also you didn't outright dismiss it as unlistenable and there was in fact quite more praise in your review than I was expecting. I also very much doubt that you'll go into OMG IT'S AMAZING from being so appalled by certain tracks. That's not really how it works. You have to start with "I don't know what to think" and have it grow. You can't start with "THIS IS PRETTY RETARDED" and get to "IT TOUCHES MY SOUL". If you start thinking something is retarded, any love grown is probably a bit ironic/disingenuous. Also lol sorry I can't ever get over that you HATED APPLES.

Bah! I find that first impressions are usually right... and that if you come to like something that you previously disliked, you don't tend to change your mind about certain aspects, but rather realize things you hadn't before that make the bad things tolerable <_<

rofl I love this. I love to hear you thinking he's crap because so many friends list entries I read are from the Patrick Wolf fan community, i.e. teen girls who *LOVE HIM AND THINK EVERYTHING HE DOES IS THE MOST ULTIMATE GLORIOUS BEAUTY*

It's like the Björk fan community, but more hormonal and annoying.

I remember how I defended Bjork's "Volta" when it came out, saying it was just as good as her other albums and all that jazz.

Oops.

As much as I regretted my initial review, however, it was more that "Volta" is one of those albums that sounds pretty good on the first listen but gets annoying the longer you're acquainted with it. Perhaps the Patrick one is the opposite of this (AKA a grower) but then again you could be right about it. Nobody's called me a hypocrite to my face about doing a 180 on "Volta," so I don't think you should worry about it. Opinions change. :-)

When Volta came out, I thought, "yeah, this is pretty okay. Sounds sorta rushed." I still think that's the case. Like she didn't work very hard on it. I didn't really get why she wanted people to buy and listen to her unfinished musical sketches. And I hate when people get into AFRICA

Something I hope came across in my review is that it DISAPPOINTED me. The album is just "pretty okay." I expect more than "pretty okay" from Patrick Wolf because I know he's capable of much better. I think, even if it grows on me, it will still be disappointing.

Volta didn't grow on me, though I think the live stuff was fantastic.
